Marketing in the legal sector has changed drastically over the last few years. The use of digital is difficult to ignore, especially when it’s proving so successful for many firms. Its power comes from the fact that it has changed the way we all research and purchase services and products.
Over 600 firms have exited the legal market since 2013 as leading players absorb smaller firms in the relentless pursuit of market share. In the SME legal market, some firms struggle to keep up to date with changing client behaviour and new opportunities, whilst others are creating profitable niches.
Using forty-five key questions, we examined and evaluated 40 of the North West’s leading legal firms’ current digital marketing performance. Who was taking advantage of new digital opportunities and who still had work to do? Could the smaller firms challenge the larger ones by using low cost digital techniques? Is legal behind other industries or is it actually blazing a trail?

Well done to the top 10! There were some notable risers from our 2016 research, especially the likes of Berg and Napthens who were outside the top 10 last year. Congratulations to them and everyone else listed in the Top 10.
